NAU Lyric Theatre presents ‘Dido and Aeneas’

Coley Roberts

Step into a world of magic, intrigue and heartbreak with Northern Arizona University’s production of the opera “Dido and Aeneas.”

The performance, put on by the Lyric Theatre program, brings to life the story of the monarchs of Carthage and Troy, who married to strengthen their kingdoms. Their love is thwarted by evil witches, who plan to entice the warrior Aeneas away from Dido and then kill him. British writer Henry Purcell tells the tragic love story in just five scenes.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 and Feb. 2-4, with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, in Ashurst Auditorium on the NAU campus. Tickets are $22 for adults and $6 for NAU students with a student ID. To purchase tickets, call (928) 523-5661 or visit nau.edu/cto.

Eric Gibson is directing the performing, and Sarah Harrell is conducting the orchestra.
