  •  Former NAU-TV reporter Kade Gilliss was nominated for three Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards. The Copper Axe Heist is a nominee under the Sports Story Content and Editor Short Form Content categories. In the Sports Story Content category, other nominations typically are associated with the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Coyotes and Utah Jazz production teams. The second story, Joey Gatewood | NAU Football Nutritionist, received a nomination in the Human Interest Short Form category.  
  • The Phoenix Bioscience Core, of which NAU is a partner, has joined the Global Network of Innovation Districts (GIID). The primary goal of GIID and the Global Network is to accelerate the growth of innovation districts through empirical analysis, peer learning and technical support for implementing new strategies and initiatives in districts and their communities. This connection will help elevate the PBC and its anchor institutions and create new opportunities for partnership and collaboration. 
  • The men’s and women’s cross country teams were voted unanimous favorites in preseason poll for the Big Sky Conference for the 2022 season. The men’s team enters this season as the defending NCAA national champions, winning five championships in the past six years. The women’s team is coming off a successful season in which they placed 23rd at the NCAA National Championships. Both teams are defending Big Sky Champions. 
  • Fred DeMicco, the executive director of the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, co-authored an op-ed in HospitalityNet that examined NAU’s collaboration with the Cockerell Leadership Academy. “Lessons from Disney Leadership Programs at Northern Arizona University a Great Learning Experience” looks at the benefits HRM students experienced in these out-of-the-box leadership courses that implemented lessons from one of the United States’ most recognized companies.
