Sonia Nazario, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Enrique’s Journey: The Story of a Boy’s Dangerous Odyssey to Reunite with His Mother, will discuss her work, present a photographic slide show and sign books, beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Ardrey Auditorium.
The book is a timeless story of families torn apart, the yearning to be together again, and the flood of young Central Americans coming to America.
Nazario’s account of Enrique’s journey first appeared in the Los Angeles Times. She won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for feature writing for the series.
The author will discuss the book and show a slide show of photographs by Don Bartletti, a Los Angeles Times photojournalist whose work features borderland issues.
Enrique’s Journey was the featured book in NAUreads, the summer reading program that invites first-year NAU students to read the same book and participate in conversations about it, providing them with a common experience as they begin their educational journey.
The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. For tickets, call (928) 523-2803 or (928) 523-5661. Tickets also will be available at the door.
