Denise Leidy will discuss the recent reinstallation of Chinese ceramics in the Metropolitan Museum of Art during a free public lecture, “Playing with Pots,” from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Cline Library Assembly Hall.

Leidy is a curator of Asian art for the museum, which has a new installation that includes comparative pieces from Korea and Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas.

The exhibit features about 420 examples from the museum’s extensive collection, which began with a purchase of about 1,000 Chinese pieces in 1879. The display focuses on the technological and historical development of Chinese ceramics from the sixth to the 18th century, stressing China’s continuous and complicated role in global ceramic history.
