NAUreads selects a compelling tale of two Wes Moores

Watch author Wes Moore speak about his book, The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, and challenge students to think about the decisions they make each day and throughout their lives.

One city, two boys with the same name and the winding, divergent paths each of their lives take is the basis for the nonfiction book, The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, the NAUreads selection for this fall.

Both Wes Moores were born in Baltimore, and as adults appear to have shared little in common beyond their names. One—the author of the book—grew up to be a combat veteran of Afghanistan, Rhodes Scholar, White House Fellow and successful businessman. The other is a convicted felon serving a life sentence in prison with no chance for parole. The author takes readers back to the childhoods of both Wes Moores and explores the decisions and events that steered their lives in different directions.

All first-year students are provided with the book at orientation to encourage conversation and involvement. NAU will host several events including a presentation by the author at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Ardrey Auditorium.

A film series, book club discussions and lectures related to central themes covered in the book also are scheduled for the fall.

Copies of the book are available for purchase through the NAU Bookstore. Information is available on the NAUreads website.
