In honor of the 200-year-anniversary of Jane Austen’s novel, Pride and Prejudice, NAU Theater will perform the stage version at the Clifford E. White Theater from April 19 to 28.
The story takes place in 19th century England, as Mrs. Bennet nurtures a single-minded pursuit of advantageous matches for her five middle-class daughters. A fine match shouldn’t be difficult for Jane, the eldest and prettiest of the girls. But her star-crossed romance has its bumps and potholes along the path. Her sister, Elizabeth, is witty and outspoken and perhaps a bit too modern for the Regency-era society. She takes an instant dislike to the high-born Mr. Darcy, and he merely finds her tolerable; yet somehow they are drawn to one another.
