  • Cancer Support Community AZ selected Northern Arizona University for its 2021-22 Community Partner Award. Faculty, staff and students volunteered time to help with various events throughout the years, including social work and counseling interns from NAU’s programs.
  • Alan Lew, a professor in the Department of Geography, Planning & Recreation, received the International Geographical Union’s Lauréat d’Honneur for his substantial contributions as chair of the Commission of Tourism, Leisure and Global Change and his work as organizer of IGU events during his term as chair. He will be given the award at the IGU Extraordinary Geographical Congress in Paris in July.
  • Philosophy student Jack Ryan was a featured external reviewer, along with a student from India and a student from the UK, for Ball State’s undergraduate philosophy journal Stance. Read more about Ryan’s work.
  • Sophomore women’s tennis player Sofia Markova earned her first career Big Sky Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award after winning matches against Portland State and Grand Canyon. This is the fifth consecutive week a Lumberjack has received this award and the fifth different player to do so.
  • NAU’s football, volleyball, soccer and men’s and women’s cross country teams combined for 62 Fall All-Academic awards in the Big Sky Conference. To be eligible for Big Sky All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team’s competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
