NAU Jazz concert to feature Argentinean tango music

NAU Jazz Band I and the Piazzolla Quintet will be tangoing the night away at their April 19 free performance at 3 p.m. in Ardrey Auditorium.

The Piazzolla Quintet consists of guest violinist Miro Hristov, NAU faculty members Joel DiBartolo on bass, Mary Frances DiBartolo on cello, Jacquelyn Schwandt on viola, and community member Chase Coleman on piano.

They will perform pieces from Argentinean tango composer Ástor Pantaleón Piazzolla.

Jazz Band I will play music by Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Matt Harris, Charles Mingus and the Piazzolla pieces arranged for big band music.

Hristov is a violin professor at the University of Tennesse in Knoxville and the associate concertmaster of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.
