  • NAU women’s golfer Aleksandra Chekalina is representing her home country of Russia in the European Ladies Team Championship July 9-13 at the Is Molas Resort in Italy.  Chekalina earned All-Tournament honors at Big Sky Championships while at NAU this spring in addition to her Third Team All-Conference selection.
  • Women’s golfers Elle Kocourkova and Sara Padilla were named Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars this month. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 is required to be considered for the list. A total of 1,097 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized.
  • Men’s cross country and track and field runner Kyle Havriliak and women’s tennis player Hanneke Lodewijks are recipients of Northern Arizona University’s 2018-19 Big Sky Scholar-Athlete award. To qualify for the award, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.2, be a member of the graduating class and/or have completed their last year of intercollegiate athletic eligibility, have completed at least two years of intercollegiate competition and be a letter winner in their respective sport. Havriliak and Lodewijks were selected by the department for their academic and athletic performances.
  • Men’s long-distance runner Geordie Beamish is on the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic Second Team All-American list for track and field and cross country. The distinction is given to student-athletes who excel academically while regularly competing for their institution. Beamish ended the academic year with a 3.73 GPA in civil engineering. Beamish has won a number of academic and athletic awards throughout his career at NAU and will return as a senior this fall.
