- Maiah Jaskoski, a professor for the Department of Politics and International Affairs, presented her research at two events hosted by the University of Notre Dame on Oct. 2-3. Both panels, hosted by the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, highlighted Jaskoski’s co-authored special issue of Studies in Comparative International Development and her chapter in Exploring Environmental Violence: Perspectives, Experience, Expression, and Engagement.
- Research.com recognized NAU’s nursing program as one of the 2024 Best Nursing Degree Programs in America, ranking it No. 240 on its list of U.S. universities. The website’s data scientists rigorously analyze the quality of winning universities using the National Center for Education Statistics and U.S. Department of Education databases.
- NAU also earned 19 awards from the Intelligent.com 2025 best degree program rankings. These honors include:
- Ranking No. 6 on the Best Online Master’s in Math Education Degree Programs of 2025 list
- Ranking No. 7 on the Best Master’s in Criminology Degree Programs of 2025 list
- Ranking No. 10 on the Best Accounting Degree Programs of 2025 list
- Ranking No. 10 on the Best Online Hospitality Management Degree Programs of 2025 list
- Ranking No. 10 on the Best Online Logistics Degree Programs of 2025 list
- Juliette Roddy, the NARBHA Institute James Wurgler MD Chair of Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health in NAU’s Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, earned a 2024 Arizona American Indian Excellence in Leadership Award. Roddy’s achievement, the Phyllis J. Bigpond Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizes Indigenous women who contribute to Native American communities through their careers and personal projects.
- NAU research teams received three Hispanic-Serving Institution grants from the National Science Foundation. These grants include:
- $500,000 for the CAMINOS (Creating A More Inclusive Network and Orientation through STEM communication) project awarded to research support director Nena Bloom, Associate Vice President of Student Life Experience Hilda Ladner, Center for STEM Teaching and Learning senior research coordinator Lauren Shollenberger, Department of Teaching and Learning associate professor Marti Canipe and director of academic support for undergraduate research Tina Zecher.
- Department of Mechanical Engineering Chair Cornel Ciocanel is leading a research team that received a $1 million award titled “Strengthening Degree Attainment Pathways for Pre-Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Majors in Rural Southwestern US.” This grant is in partnership with NAU Yuma and Arizona Western College.
- A $500,000 grant titled “Advancing STEM Students Competence and Consciousness through Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Pedagogies” awarded to STEM Education assistant professors Christina Baze and Priyanka Parekh, Department of Biological Sciences assistant professor of practice Alison Singer and Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry associate professor Naomi Lee.
