  • The Arizona branch of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) named Anna Fern-Buneo, an assistant clinical professor in NAU’s Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, its 2025 Physical Therapist of the Year. Every year, APTA recognizes physical therapists and physical therapy assistants who have demonstrated excellence in areas like education, legislation, membership, practice and public relations.  
  • Subhakar Mutyala, a part-time faculty member in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, earned a fellow designation from the American Society for Radiation Oncology. The designation honors society members with substantial volunteer hours who have contributed to the field of radiation oncology in areas like research, education, patient care and leadership. 
  • Andrew Richardson, a regents’ professor in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS), earned a 2025 fellow designation from the American Geophysical Union (AGU). AGU recognizes individuals for their accomplishments in research, education, communication and outreach in regard to Earth and space sciences. Richardson was one of nine fellows nominated in this year’s biogeosciences section, which encompasses research into the interactions between biological, geological, hydrologic and atmospheric systems on Earth. 
  • SICCS professor Kevin Gurney had his first-hand account featured in The New York Times in the article “He Studied How Emissions Are Heating Up U.S. Cities.” The article highlights Gurney’s work studying greenhouse gas emissions and explores how he and his coworkers have been impacted by the Trump administration canceling or discontinuing their grants.
