  • Diana Calvo Martinez, an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Environmental Engineering, was recognized at the Pete C. García Victoria Foundation’s 16th Annual Arizona Higher Education Awards in September. Calvo Martinez earned the foundation’s Dr. William Yslas Vélez STEM Award and was nominated by NAU President José Luis Cruz Rivera, who received the award in 2022. 
  • Creative media and film student Hope Deaver had her work selected for Binghamton University’s 2025 Student Experimental Film Festival. Deaver’s project, titled “Chasers,” is a found-footage film about an amateur musician that draws on themes of love, loss and the ethics of storytelling. 
  • Neal Galloway, an associate teaching professor in the School of Art and Design, will have his artwork featured in a Coconino Center for the Arts gallery until Dec. 20. The project, titled “Tin Can Conversations,” incorporates a series of sculptures and time-based artworks, exploring themes of physical and psychological distance, miscommunication and disagreement. Galloway will host an artist talk for “Tin Can Conversations” on Nov. 20.
