- Campus Dining sustainability coordinator Fran Alvarado was one of three Sodexo employees in the honorable mention category of the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation’s 2024 Heroes of Everyday Life award. Alvarado earned a $1,000 grant for her work addressing the NAU community’s food needs and combating food insecurity.
- Amy Armstrong-Heimsoth, department chair and associate clinical professor for the Department of Occupational Therapy, was selected as a finalist for The Phoenix Business Journal’s 2024 Health Care Heroes Awards. As one of three finalists in the community outreach category nominated for educating her community about healthcare topics, Armstrong-Heimsoth will be recognized for her achievements in the journal’s Aug. 30 issue and at the annual Health Care Heroes awards celebration on Aug. 29.
- Sanjay Joshi, a professor in the Department of History, was one of 31 scholars awarded fellowships by the American Institute of Indian Studies to complete academic projects in India from 2024-26. Joshi earned a senior fellowship funded by a U.S. State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs grant for his project “Negotiating Marginality: The Life of Marie Sommerville.”
- The NAU men’s cross country and track and field teams finished second in the 2024 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Program of the Year standings, finishing with 29.5 points. The award recognizes institutions based on their successes during the NCAA championships.
- NAU swimming and diving was among 722 teams from 417 institutions to be recognized for academic excellence as a Scholar America Team by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America. With a team GPA of 3.67, NAU swimming and diving was one of 563 teams with a GPA of 3.30 or higher.
