- José Martínez-Fonseca, a postdoctoral scholar in the School of Forestry, was the first author of the study, “A global review of landscape-scale analyses in bats reveals geographic and taxonomic biases and opportunities for novel research,” published in Biological Conservation. The study compiles information from more than 170 peer-reviewed studies across five continents to highlight knowledge gaps in bat research.
- Department of Politics and International Affairs professor Eric Otenyo appeared live on the news program “Good Morning Kenya” on Jan. 20. He discussed President Donald Trump’s inauguration and the future of the country under the Trump administration.
- NAU’s Species from Feces lab, led by associate research professor and director of genetics Faith Walker, helped facilitate the discovery of endangered Mexican long-nosed bats in southeastern Arizona. The lab confirmed the bat’s presence by collecting and surveying environmental DNA, working alongside local citizen scientists, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Bat Conservation International.
- Department of Mechanical Engineering Chair Constantin Ciocanel and his team received a $999,825 National Science Foundation grant to create additional instructional opportunities for the educators, counselors and families of Hispanic and Latine students interested in pursuing engineering degrees.
