- Track athlete Nico Young ran the first sub-4-minute mile at 7,000 feet in collegiate history, coming in first at the Lumberjack Team Challenge in the Skydome Friday. Madeline Wilson broke her own school and conference records in the 200-meter, running in 23.39 seconds. Many NAU track and field athletes made it to the medal stand, had personal bests or performed well at the meet. Read more about their achievements.
- Following his performance, Young was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week. Young’s time of 3:57.33 is the top time in the NCAA so far this season when adjusted for altitude to 3:48.71.
- Young and Wilson also were named Big Sky Athletes of the Week for their standout performances. It was the second consecutive Big Sky Women’s Athlete of the Week award for Wilson. Desmond Lott was named Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning both the weight throw and the shot put over the weekend.
- Additionally, the NAU track & field teams each earned their highest USTFCCCA Week 1 National Rankings in program history, with the men being ranked third and the women being ranked 12th.
