Still got some of those volunteer hours available? Use them up at Holiday Helpings, a single-day event aimed at making sure no one in our community goes hungry on Thanksgiving Day.
On Nov. 25, volunteers from throughout the city will gather at the NAU Facility Services parking lot at 2551 E. Pine Knoll Drive to help distribute the makings for a Thanksgiving meal to more than 800 families in our community. Holiday Helpings is a joint effort between NAU and the Flagstaff Family Food Center.
The need is especially critical during the holidays; last year, FFFC saw a 20% increase in individuals served and a 24% increase in households served between October and November.
Each holiday box includes:
- A whole turkey
- Bag of assorted produce
- Stuffing, instant potatoes, gravy, vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth, sweet potatoes, biscuit mix, cooking oil and a pie
- Cooking pan, recipe booklet and nutrition support resources
To sign up, visit NAU’s Axe of Service website and look for Holiday Helpings. To learn more about how to donate, visit the Flagstaff Family Food Center website.
