Jose Carlos de la Puente, assistant professor of history at Texas State University, will speak on “To See the Things of Spain: Indigenous Travelers to the Habsburg Royal Court” during a free public lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in the Liberal Arts building, room 120.
Puente’s lecture will address the journey of native Andeans to the Habsburg Royal Court during the 16th and 17th centuries.
He will answer questions regarding the social history of the travelers including where they came from, why they visited Spain and what transatlantic networks sustained their journeys.
Puente’s research also includes Atlantic history, legal frameworks and indigeneity under Spanish colonialism.
