French environmental journalist to speak at NAU

A leading environmental journalist from France will speak about his bestselling book at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 in Cline Library Assembly Hall.

Herve Kempf, environmental editor for one France’s leading newspapers, Le Monde, will discuss his recent book How the Rich are Destroying the Earth. His book now appears in its first English edition, translated by Flagstaff resident Leslie Thatcher.

Founder and editor of Reporterre, a web site devoted to the environment and social justice, Kempf has interviewed such leading figures as Al Gore and James Lovelock, documented environmental issues on five continents and worked as a journalist for more than 20 years.

Kempf’s book is a primer on the link between global ecology and global economy.

“We cannot understand the entwined ecological and social crises, if we can’t see them as two sides of the same disaster,” Kempf said.
