Fitness Day promotes health awareness on campus

Learning how to live a healthy lifestyle through sports, fitness and nutrition is the goal behind the annual Recreational Sports and Fitness Day on Friday, Feb. 22, at the NAU Recreation Center.

The daylong event, held in conjunction with the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association, comprises several free fitness activities that are open to all faculty, staff and students.

“Fitness Day is a great opportunity for employees and students alike to take advantage of and be exposed to all that the Recreation Center has to offer,” said Amy Laxton, program coordinator for Campus Recreation Services.

The goal of the event is to stress the importance of health and wellness and to show the campus community how to achieve a healthier lifestyle by participating in sports and fitness programs at NAU, Laxton said.

Free Fitness Day activities include:

Free Group Exercise classes:

  • 12:10-1 p.m. Super Synergy
  • 1-2 p.m. Intense Sculpting Challenge/Abs-solutely Core
  • 2-3 p.m. Zumba
  • 3-4 p.m. Yoga
  • 4-5 p.m. Hip-hop Dancing
  • 5-6 p.m. Step Aerobics

Open climbing wall with free rentals, noon- 4 p.m.

Health and Wellness Fair, noon-4 p.m.
An open fair with information on various health and wellness related topics.

Free body composition analysis, 2-4 p.m.
This analysis measures one’s body fat content to see if it’s at a healthy level.

Intramural Sports Weight Lifting Competition, 5-8 p.m.
A weight lifting challenge between intramural sports athletes.

Faculty and staff also can take advantage of all-day free admission to the Recreation Center and all-day free racquet rentals.
