#CelebrateFirstGen with NAU’s 1st ‘Jacks on Thursday (VIDEO)

Did you know that one in three students at Northern Arizona University’s Flagstaff campus is the first in their family to attend college? In this year’s freshman class, it’s even higher.

On Nov. 8, Northern Arizona University is recognizing these students as part of a national First-Generation College Celebration.

The Office of First-Generation Programs will be in front of the Hot Spot at the University Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. There will be giveaways for first-generation students as well as faculty, staff and advocates, who are collectively known as 1st ‘Jacks. Students can share their experiences and learn about programs they can access through the Office of First-Generation Programs.

NAU-TV profiled one of those programs, the STAR Program, which helps freshmen find the support, community and resources they need to be successful in college.

People are invited to attend Thursday’s event and join in the online discussion with #CelebrateFirstGen.
