The Flagstaff Star Party, a community event celebrating the dark skies of the city, will make its debut at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Buffalo Park.
The dark sky viewing will feature more than a dozen telescopes of all sizes allowing guests to view the many wonders of the night sky including star clusters, galaxies, nebulae and more. The event is free and open to the public.
Amateur and professional astronomers from NAU’s physics and astronomy department and astronomy club, Lowell Observatory, Coconino Astronomical Society and U.S. Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station will be on hand to answer questions and assist with the telescopes. Sky experts also will point out constellations using green laser pointers.
