Assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice Luis Fernandez will sign copies of his new book, Shutting Down the Streets: Political Violence and Social Control in a Global Era, at a free public signing event from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the NAU Bookstore.
The book, which Fernandez co-authored, revamps the literature on social control and reveals the significance of protest policing, documenting in detail how social control forecloses the spaces through which social movements nurture the development of dissent.
