Classified Staff Advisory Council holds annual winter clothing and food drive

Volunteers sort clothes

Oct. 1, 2019

The 19th Annual Warm Clothing Drive, sponsored by the Classified Staff Advisory Council (CSAC) in partnership with the NAU Student Philanthropy Council, is being held from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31.

This is an opportunity to donate new and gently used clothing items for all ages and genders. Organizers hope to collect heavy coats, gloves, mittens, hats, blankets, socks, sweatshirts and jeans.

“Our goal is to increase the number of items that we contribute to our community and campus partners,” CSAC president Michele Benedict said. “We have a wide variety of needs that we know our NAU family can help provide for.”

Clothing items will benefit Flagstaff Shelter Services, Sunshine Rescue Mission, Hope Cottage, Northland Family Help Center and Sharon Manor.

Last year, 19 volunteers collected 1,193 clothing items and 211 food items. These items were sorted and bagged for beneficiaries to pick-up the first week in November.

Non-perishable food items and canned soups also are welcomed and will support Louie’s Cupboard, the campus food pantry. Louie’s Cupboard, with support from First-Generation Programs and Campus Dining, was created to assist students with food costs while in school. Last year, it served more than 200 NAU students and staff.

Donations boxes have been placed in campus buildings for convenient drop-off locations.
