Luis Fernandez, associate professor of criminology and criminal justice, and Jason Lowry and Samson Swanick, graduate students in the sustainable communities program, will speak on “The Past, Present and Future of Development: Exploring Community-based Approaches toward Sustainability,” at a free public lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in the du Bois Center Fremont Room.
The seminar is the second in the Mainpat Seminar Series, which focuses on issues of importance in Tibetan refugee settlements, including Tibetan history, Tibetan Buddhism, sustainable practices and the provision of medical care in the developing world.
The series is part of the Mainpat Interdisciplinary Global Learning Project at Northern Arizona University, which is addressing the needs of the isolated Mainpat refugee settlement through an international, interdisciplinary and faculty-led study abroad project.
