  • NAU wide receiver Kolbe Katsis was selected as the Big Sky Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 17. He was the first Lumberjack since 2019 to score three receiving touchdowns in a single game during NAU’s Nov. 15 victory over California Polytechnic State University.
  • NAU’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics hosted its annual High School Math Day on Nov. 7. The event invited students from multiple Arizona high schools to campus for a day of problem-solving competitions and mathematics seminars hosted by assistant teaching professors Tyler Brock and Anne Carter. About 136 students from nine schools participated this year—including schools in Prescott, Goodyear and Peoria.
  • Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science professor Christopher Edwards co-authored two papers published in the October 2025 issue of JGR Planets. One paper provides a full description of the Corinto crater, a Mars impact crater known for producing an extensive system of thermally distinct rays, and the other paper summarizes Mars temperature variation data from the Emirates Mars Mission.
  • Professor Joshua Emery, doctoral student Lucas McClure and NAU alumna Brittany Harvison—all from the Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science— co-authored the paper “Compositional characterisation of asteroid (84) Klio with JWST,” published in Astronomy & Astrophysics. The paper reports the first spectroscopic analysis of a particular main-belt asteroid to help astronomers better understand its composition.
  • A team of students from NAU’s Immersive Media and Games degree program won first place at the AZ Game Jam Awards on Nov. 2, a game development competition hosted by ASU and sponsored by Unity Technologies. The 48-hour event had student teams from across Arizona create video games from scratch to be playtested by volunteers.
