- NAU was among the 12 recipients of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s Recycling Grant awards. The $43,000 received will go toward a community-based social marketing approach to promote recycling on campus, hoping to increase recycling rates and create a model that can be used by other universities.
- Cline Library E-Resources Librarian Rita Baladad presented on “Forced Labor and Boycotts: Ethics Clauses and Library Licenses” at the 2024 Electronic Resources & Libraries (E&RL) Conference. The conference was held in Austin and online in early March.
- Nico Young was named The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s National Athlete of the Week following his record-breaking performance at Sound Running’s The TEN meet, where he made his 10,000-meter debut and broke the collegiate record in the event with a time of 26:57.72.
- The NAU track & field competed at the Willie Williams Classic.
- On the first day, Madeline Wilson earned an event win and broke the school record for the 200-meter run with a time of 23.26. She also placed seventh in the long jump. Wilson concluded the event with a second-place spot in the 100-meter and a personal best time of 11.52. Her performance earned her the title of Big Sky Track Athlete of the Week.
- Kyle Smith was the top NAU finisher in the men’s 200-meter, placing 10th after running a personal best time of 21.14. He joined Ian Lipsey, Khamis Hassan and Mitchell Effing the next day for the men’s ‘A’ 4×100-meter relay, where the team placed third and combined to run a time of 40.46.
- Trenton Givens finished third in the 400-meter hurdles after running a time of 52.84, putting him in ninth on NAU’s all-time performance list in the event. The next day, he placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.30. Tyson Givens ran a personal best time of 54.46 to place seventh in the eventand placed sixth in the next day’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.72. The two also joined Marc Anthony Sanchez and Joshua Anderson to form the men’s ‘A’ 4×400-meter relay group, which placed fifth with a combined run time of 3:16.86.
- Ethan Seppala and Cannon Booker earned new personal records on day one, finishing 11th and 15th. Seppala ran a time of 55.39 while Booker ran a time of 56.69. They formed the ‘B’ 4X400-meter relay group with Chrisian Mutengala and Kyle Smith, finishing sixth with a time of 3:20.30.
- On day one, Nikita Moore took the event win in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:23.35. Annika Reiss placed second with a time of 4:23.99 with Keira Moore in third with a time of 4:26.75. Karrie Baloga and Ava Mitchell placed fourth and fifth respectively with running times of 4:28.48 and 4:30.72.
- Caleb Easton and Erik Le Roux finished third and fourth respectively in the 1,500-meter with running times of 3:49.77 and 3:50.33. Zack Munson placed sixth after running a time of 3:51.18 in his first career 1,500-meter. Riley Human ran a personal best time of 3:52.27 to finish eighth.
- Sariyah Horne-Kemp saw a second-place finish and a new personal record in the hammer throw, hitting a mark of 58.14 meters. On day two, Kemp finished fourth in the discus after hitting a mark of 47.29 meters, with Tañia Duncan close behind in sixth with a personal best mark of 43.66 meters.
- Garret Bernt placed third in the hammer throw after throwing 60.07 meters in his first meet of the outdoor season. Parker Bays finished seventh in the event with a mark of 57.35 meters. Bernt also competed in the discus, placing fourth with a mark of 51.16 meters.
