- Carol Chambers, professor of wildlife ecology, earned the 2023 Aldo Leopold Memorial Award, for her outstanding contribution in opening her profession to broader diversity and discovering new species of bats. She will be receiving her award this November, at the TWS’ Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
- Alicia Azpeleta, assistant professor in the School of Forestry, Ph.D. students Erin Todd and Gaby Ayres and Pete Z. Fulé, Regents’ professor of forestry, researched local flora at Saguaro National Park and provided the fire management team data to make informed decisions toward reducing impacts of severe fires.
- Honors College Dean Kevin Gustafson was selected to participate in the Becoming a Provost Academy, which is co-sponsored by The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the American Academic Leadership Institute. This program will kick off July 21 at AASCU 2023 Academic Affairs Summer Meeting, in Baltimore.
- Jiun-Yi Tsai, assistant professor in the School of Communication, was the first author on an article published in Preventive Medicine Reports that looks into the social, economic and political determinants for a 132 COVID-19 risk information articles uploaded to the web. Researchers seek to highlight the importance of public health agencies’ communication improvement about COVID-19 in their findings.
