  • Amit Kumar, assistant professor of physical therapy and athletic training, and colleague Shweta Gore, MGH Institute of Health Professions, received a National Institute of Health (NIH) grant for their project, “Functional Biomarkers for Prediction of Hospitalization, Long-Term Care Placement, and Mortality in Older Adults with Cardiometabolic Multimorbidity”. The purpose of this grant is to train minority health professional students in geriatric research and strength the institutions research environment. 
  • Ira Allen, associate professor of rhetoric from the Departments of English and Politics & International Affairs was one of the featured speakers at this year’s annual Paterno Fellows Contemporary Issues Forum at Pennsylvania State University. The forum, titled “The Future of Democracy and the Humanities in an Age of Catastrophes,” explored the importance of humanities study both for the future of democracy and for making meaning of our difficult times. 
  • Two teammates from a past NAU women’s basketball team were recently recognized for their accomplishments. Current doctoral candidate and GSG president Rebecca Seeger (Col. RET, USAF) was inducted into the Arizona Veteran’s Hall of Fame in October. Fellow alumna Peggy Kennedy was recently inducted into the AZ Sports Hall of Fame.
  • Associate professor emerita Paula K. Greene and retired Honors and history professor Joseph E. Shaffer III published a book titled, “UNSUNG:  Quiet Voices of the US Navy’s EOD Warriors and Their Families.” According to Greene, this is the first book of its kind on the relatively unknown special forces community highlighting interviews with both Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal operators and members of their families.   
  • Frederick J. DeMicco, executive director and professor from the School of Hospitality and Restaurant Management, published a new book titled, “Medical Travel Brand Management Success Strategies for Hospitality Bridging Healthcare (H2H).” This book explores the multitude of medical travel services and discusses the integration of traveling medical guests with destination providers, hospitality/healthcare professionals, and travel service providers. 
  • Regents’ professor from the Department of Biological Sciences Michelle Mack was recently featured in an issue of Science. Her perspective piece, “Arctic wildfires at a warming threshold” discusses bigger wildfires in the Siberian Arctic signaling release of more carbon to the atmosphere.
