The Northern Arizona University Office of Emergency Management is seeking participants to help conduct its annual Blue Phone Campus Safety walk to test the functionality and condition of the emergency blue light phones on campus. The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 20.
In addition to testing, participants will be asked to apply the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), which addresses crime prevention through uses and management of urban and architectural design, both human-made and naturally occurring. Any observed obstructions to the blue phones such as overgrown trees, placement of physical barriers and environmental lighting should be reported.
Interested participants are asked to arrive at 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Liberal Arts Building (building 18), Room 120. To accommodate COVID-19 social distancing requirements, participants are asked to wear face coverings and register ahead of time by scanning this QR code.
For those participating, an inspection app to record findings has been created and can be downloaded for mobile devices with this QR code.
