  • Northern Arizona University distance runners Geordie Beamish and Tyler Day were honored for the second time in their careers with a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team. Beamish earned two All-American honors for the indoor season ranking No. 4 in the mile with a time of 3:56.90 and No. 2 in the 3K with a time of 7:44.67. Day earned the NCAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Year award and broke the American collegiate record in the 5K with a time of 13:16.95.
  • Undergraduate Beau Prince (lead author), recent graduate Mitchell Magnuson (second author) and associate professor of astronomy and planetary sciences Mark Loeffler co-authored the article titled, “Space Weathering of FeS Induced via Pulsed Laser Irradiation” published in JGR Planet. The article is the first look at how spectral and structural properties of FeS is altered by simulated micrometeorite impacts. The goal is to understand whether and to what degree sulfide minerals can contribute to space weather of carbonaceous asteroids.
  • Second-year doctoral student Ari Koeppel was a co-author on the conference report titled “Mars Extant Life: What’s Next?” published in Astrobiology. The report summarizes the conference, which brought together a community of publishing experts to discuss habitability and astrobiology related to Mars. Topics included indigenous microbial life, martian extant life and identifying and exploring refugia.

  • Dulce Jimenez, program coordinator for the Center for Health Equity and Research, was named the Outstanding Student of the Year for NAU’s Master of Public Health program. The award recognizes an individual who persevered through challenging circumstances and demonstrated commitment, follow-through and professionalism to excel and make important contributions to the health and well-being of local communities.
  • Seven Northern Arizona University men’s distance runners earned All-America distinction led by Geordie Beamish, Tyler Day and Luis Grijalva, setting a new program record. Beamish qualified in the mile and 3K, while Day and Grijalva qualified in both the 3K and the 5K. Blaise Ferro, Ryan Raff, Abdihamid Nur and Theo Quax all earned their first career track and field honors.
  • Three NAU football players were named to the Hero Sports 2020 Preseason All-American team. Kicker Luis Aguilar was named to the First Team, punter DJ Arnson was named to the Second Team and junior wide receiver Brandon Porter was named to the Third Team.
  • Members of the Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) attended the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH), winning several group and individual awards.
    • Collectively, the residence life groups won the NACURH School of the Year, Outstanding NRHH Chapter of the Year and the OTM Traveling Trophy.
    • Rachell Krell won the NRHH Diamond Award for demonstrating outstanding service and recognition on campus to their NRHH chapter. Krell also was sworn in as the coordinating officer for NCC Training and Development.
    • Ally Kittle was sworn in as the coordinating officer for presidential relations and RHA Development.
    • Kittle and Krell also received Golden Funk E pins given out by the NACURH Board of Directors.
    • Mathematics and statistics staff member Eryn McCoy won National Residence Hall Honorary President of the Year and received a Golden Funk E pin.
  • Audrey Mann, student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, received the De Rosa Partners in Physical Therapy Scholarship. The scholarship promotes and advances the physical therapy profession through the support of collaborative research, teaching and community service opportunities between students and faculty of the physical therapy program at NAU and in practice.
