The Canadian ensemble The Gryphon Trio is making its way to Northern Arizona University as part of the 2019 Horizons Summer Concert Series. The award-winning piano trio will take the stage at 4 p.m. on July 7 in Kitt Recital Hall.
The Gryphon Trio’s “In Pursuit of Love” concert pairs Beethoven and Ravel piano trios with a recently commissioned work by Sri Lanka-born composer Dinuk Wijeratne.
Trio members are Annalee Patipatanakoon on violin, Roman Borys on cello and Jamie Parker on piano. The performers are known for collaborating on projects that push the boundaries of classical music. They tour regularly throughout North America and Europe and enjoy longstanding relationships with organizations such as Music Toronto, Chamber Music Society of Detroit and Ottawa Chamberfest.
The Gryphon Trio has commissioned more than 85 new works, and its recording catalogue includes more than 23 releases on music labels. In addition to its three 2019 Juno Awards, including one for Classical Album of the Year, the trio received the 2013 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts from the Canada Council for the Arts.
