The week preceding Veterans Day is Veterans Awareness Week, and Northern Arizona University has several events planned to show support and appreciation for the students, staff and faculty who have served in the U.S. armed forces.
The Care Package Challenge kicks off the events. From 1-4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, through Friday, Nov. 9, all are invited to the University Union to participate. There also are events almost every day during the week preceding Veterans Day:
Moral Courage and Injury with speaker David Wood: 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Cline Library Auditorium
Native American Veteran Forum: 5-7 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Native American Cultural Center
Student Veterans of America BBQ: 5-7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the 1899 Patio
Veteran Flag Tribute: 5:30-6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 on the west lawn of the University Union

Additionally, the Military Times announced Monday that NAU ranked 44th in its Best for Vets list, noting NAU’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Defense, the GI Bill gap coverage, principles of excellence, NAU’s center for veterans and NAU’s military graduation rate of 63 percent.
NAU is also ranked first in the state for veterans.
