See the secret unfold as the Northern Arizona University Department of Theatre brings “The Secret Garden” to life, launching the 2018-19 season.
Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s 1911 beloved children’s novel, “The Secret Garden” is about a young girl named Mary Lennox. After her parents died, she is sent to live with her wealthy uncle, Archibald Craven, in Yorkshire, England. With a mansion full of secrets and a mysterious person crying, Mary uses a secluded garden as her escape. With the help of unexpected friends, she is determined to bring the garden back to life.
The children’s novel was adapted for stage by Arizona playwright Pamela Sterling and directed by theatre professor Robert Yowell.
“This enchanting story will fill the theatre with magic, mystery and music,” Yowell said. “It gently teaches audiences of all ages about the healing power of nature and how human connection and boundless love are important to us all.”
“The Secret Garden” will be performed 6 p.m. Oct. 12; 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 13; 2 p.m. Oct. 14; 6 p.m. Oct. 19; 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 20; and 2 p.m. Oct. 21, in the Clifford E. White Theater.
Tickets are $8 for students and youth, $12 for seniors and NAU faculty and staff and $14 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the NAU Central Ticket Office in the University Union.
