Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Associated Students of Northern Arizona University (ASNAU) have been working to improve student access to more consistent and affordable printing services across campus.
ITS and ASNAU examined various printing metrics and developed a plan to centrally manage and fund student printing. Beginning this fall, ITS assumed responsibility for all student printing locations and have incorporated the following into the centralized printing solution:
- ITS now provides all equipment (printers, print release stations, etc.) and consumable materials (toner, paper, etc.)
- Funded by the technology fee, students can print 100 black and white pages per term for free—should the student elect to print in color, the number of allotted pages will be adjusted accordingly.
- Black and white print-per-page costs have been reduced from 10 cents to 5 cents per page. Color printing costs were reduced to 10 cents per page.
- After the allotted 100 pages, students can pay for additional printing with a Jacks Card using JDE.
This printing solution not only provides a consistent printing experience for students but also relieves departments of having to manage printers. ITS continues to work with departments to honor previous printing arrangements. As departments and ITS agree to the pre-paid print offerings, ITS will load credits to students’ PaperCut accounts so students will be able to see their print credits.
In addition, students will be able to print to more locations on campus and allow them to control when their printing job is released, increasing privacy and decreasing unnecessary or accidental printing.
