NAU Theater performs treasured ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’

To Kill a Mockingbird performance

Harper Lee’s revered masterpiece To Kill A Mockingbird will wrap up NAU’s spring theater productions in the Clifford E. White Theater.

The play is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1961 novel and deals with serious social issues as told from the viewpoint of a 10-year-old girl in 1930s Alabama.

“The play shows how diverse people can change to make the world more compassionate and loveable,” said Robert Yowell, director and professor, NAU Department of Theater. “The theme of race in America is certainly emotionally charged and it is our hope that this production will help audiences understand the importance of racial equality.”

Debuting performances begin at 7:30 p.m. April 22-23 and April 28-30. The final show will be a matinee at 2 p.m. May 1. Tickets are $14 for adults; $12 for seniors and NAU employees; $8 for children and NAU students with ID.

To Kill a Mockingbird has a cast of 24 actors, plus another 20 behind-the-scene theater workers supporting costumes, props, makeup, lights, sound and stage management.

“The To Kill A Mockingbird story of finding truth will leave you awed and inspired,” said Kathleen McGeever, chair for NAU’s Department of Theater.
