The Northern Arizona University men’s basketball team will travel to the Navajo Nation to take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. The game will be held in the BeeHoldzil Fighting Scouts Events Center just north of Window Rock and will be televised on Fox Sports Arizona.
“This gathering represents our continued commitment to our Native American colleagues, friends, and partners,” said NAU President Rita Cheng. “We take pride in the many accomplishments we’ve made together over the years and look forward to this evening as a way to celebrate our relationship, while also cheering on our student-athletes.”
“Since arriving at NAU, we have always had the goal of playing a Division I basketball game on the Navajo Nation,” said Lisa Campos, vice president for Intercollegiate Athletics. “This is not only great for NAU Athletics, but also for the entire institution as being a leader in serving Native Americans. We are very excited about this unique opportunity.”
NAU Head Basketball Coach Jack Murphy said Arizona’s Native American communities have a deep passion for the game of basketball. “It is humbling for me and our program to become part of that tradition. This game will have a lasting impact on our student-athletes, staff and our program.”
Tickets are $5 and are available online. Tickets including bus transportation to and from the game can be purchased for $35.
