The Martin-Springer Institute at Northern Arizona University will host several events featuring panel discussions and guest speakers over the next two weeks.
Bananas, Pickles, Deutschmark & Euros: 25 Years of the “New” Germany
Guest speaker Volker Benkert from ASU’s School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies will present “The Implosion and the Afterlife of Communist East Germany” at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Grand Canyon room of the University Union. “Colonial Conquest in the American West and Nazi East” Symposium
The symposium kicks off with the “Manifest Destiny and Living Space” panel discussion at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Cline Library Assembly Hall. The panel features Maureen Hlebert of the University of Calgary, Donald Fixico of Arizona State University and Edward Westermann of Texas A&M University, San Antonio. Roundtable discussions will be held Monday, Oct. 12 and Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the Grand Canyon Room of the University Union. Topics include war, genocide, attrition in the Nazi East and American West and European perspectives. For a full schedule, click here.
