NAU Opera presents four performances of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro April 3 – 5 in Ardrey Auditorium. The opera will be performed in Italian with English surtitles.
The April 5 show will be the last NAU performance for Nando Schellen, who is retiring after 15 years as the university’s director of opera. Before coming to the United States, Schellen directed dozens of operas throughout Europe.
Schellen calls The Marriage of Figaro one of the most popular works in the world of opera.“Our talented young singers have developed a passion for this piece,” Schellen said. “Mozart really seduces his performers to special action in his operas.”
Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 3 and 4 and at 2 p.m. April 5, with Schellen leading lectures 45 minutes before each performance.
Members of The Marriage of Figaro cast also will present an extra semi-staged performance in concert at 2 p.m. April 12 at the Church of the Red Rocks in Sedona.
