NAU Art Museum opens print exhibition

"Peddlers" by Yuji Hiratsuka

The NAU Art Museum opened the Fifth Biennial National Print Exhibition this week featuring printmaking by artists from across the United States. There will be a reception, from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the museum and the show will be on display through Sept. 25.

The juried exhibition covers a wide range of themes and includes powerful examples of abstract imagery from artists working in both traditional and experimental print techniques.

Melanie Yazzie, associate professor of Art at the University of Colorado, is the juror for the exhibition. Yazzie is an acclaimed Navajo sculptor, painter and printmaker who grew up on the Navajo Reservation. Her works appear in distinguished collections including the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the Art Museum of Missoula, the Australian National Gallery, the Institute of American Indian Arts, the Kennedy Museum of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum.

The NAU Art Museum is open noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and closed all university holidays. This exhibit is free and open to the public with a suggested $2 per person donation. The museum is located on the corner of Knoles Drive and McMullen Circle in the historic Old Main building. For information, visit nau.edu/artmuseum or call (928) 523-3471.
