The NAU Art Museum opened two impressive exhibitions this month.
The 2011 School of Art Faculty Exhibition and Recent Acquisitions Exhibition will run through April 2 with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24.
George Speer, director of the museum director, said the exhibition provides NAU’s resident artists with an opportunity to present their recent work.
“Works in a variety of media, including ceramics, sculpture, painting and printmaking, reveal new concepts, problems and processes that faculty are exploring in their studios,” Speer said. “In particular, the School of Art Faculty Exhibition conveys to art students the level of professionalism in execution and presentation that a career in art demands.”
Recent Acquisitions is an exhibition of pieces that have been added to the museum’s permanent collection since 2008. The exhibit includes paintings, ceramics and graphic works by Adrian Hatfield, Sherrie Wolf, Steven Schaeffer, David Williams and others.
“These acquisitions reflect the enduring ability of traditional media to convey provocative and timely themes and demonstrate the commitment of the NAU Art Museum to collect challenging contemporary work,” Speer said.
The NAU Art Museum is located on the second floor of Old Main. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. A $2 donation is suggested.
