Things will be heating up at NAU’s Ceramics Complex when Takashi Nakazato, a Japanese ceramicist, fires his renowned work in the wood kiln on Jan. 30, 31 and Feb. 1. The public is invited.
“Takashi’s work is characterized by a casual serenity that is like nature, it compels us to look and then look again,” said Jason Hess, associate professor of ceramics. “Many of his forms are intended for the daily ritual of eating and drinking or flower display.”
Nakazato is the creator of a “yakishime,” an unglazed ceramic technique derived from the use of iron-bearing red clay.
