  • Second-year graduate students of psychology Morgan Jernigan and Sergio Pineda were awarded the Vicki Green Psychological Sciences Thesis Award. Jernigan is conducting research to increase the field’s understanding of how mass media and social media reporting of mass shootings and school shootings predict negative emotional reactions with the general public. Pineda is exploring the frequency and content of prospection and their potential effects on behavior.
  • First-year graduate student of psychology Jocelyn Robles Aguirre was awarded the Max de Montel Williamson Memorial Graduate Psychology Research Award. Aguirre seeks to extend current research by exploring how cultural differences affect the perception of support from both spouse and supervisor.
  • Chance Strawderman, a senior studying criminology and criminal justice, was selected for the Arizona Legislature’s Legislative Internship. He will work with the Arizona State Legislature in Spring of 2021 before beginning law school at the Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
  • Senior Emily Sharrer was named the Western Athletic Conference Diver of the Week after her performance at the Lumberjack Diving Invite. She was No. 2 in the 3-meter and No. 7 in platform. In the 1-meter finals, senior Jennifer Cheetham was No. 4, Sharrer was No. 8, sophomore Emily Luberto was No. 11 and junior Alyssa Jones was No. 14.
