Every March since 1987, when Congress established Women’s History Month, Americans from coast to coast have celebrated women’s achievements through the centuries. It’s a time to recognize those who spearheaded the women’s suffrage movement, women leaders in business and other figures who have fought for women’s equality, whether at the polls, in the workplace, at school or inside the doctor’s office.
For the NAU community, Women’s History Month is a chance to take part in a spate of fun and educational events on campus. Organized by the Commission on the Status of Women and other university offices and clubs, this year’s events include a creative paint-and-sip night, a session on workplace wellness and a Women’s History Month-specific cooking demo.
“We strive to celebrate and highlight the achievements and contributions of women, both historically and in the present,” said Samantha Clifford, who co-chairs the Commission on the Status of Women alongside Heather Rist. “While it’s essential to honor women’s contributions year-round, Women’s ‘HerStory’ Month provides a focused opportunity to highlight the ongoing work toward equity and representation.”
