NAU golfers Ali Carter and Noel Larson were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar teams for Division I. They are among 371 women’s collegiate golfers recognized with this honor.
Carter and Larson helped the women’s golf team record a Big Sky Conference best 3.60 team GPA in the spring.
Carter, a Phoenix Mountain Pointe high school graduate, was named the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year last season. She finished tied for third at the Big Sky Conference Championships and was the top finisher on the team. Carter has a 4.00 GPA in elementary education.
Larson, who also received the team distinction in 2004, posted a career best 17th place overall finish at the 2006 Big Sky Conference Championships. She also earned Big Sky all academic and Golden Eagle Scholar-Athlete selection while recording an 80.7 stroke average in 24 competitive rounds. Larson has a 3.90 GPA in psychology.
The selection criteria for the All-American Scholar Team are stringent. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
NAU opens the 2006-07 season Sept. 18 during the La Quinta Inn and Suites Shootout at Flagstaff’s Continental Country Club, 2380 N. Oakmont Drive.
