Tri-university agreement simplifies IRB review process

Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona have established a reciprocity agreement for research projects involving investigators from the three campuses.

The Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research oversees all research conducted by faculty, staff and students that involves living human beings as the subjects of a study.

The new agreement simplifies the process of IRB review of collaborative projects by allowing one campus to become the designated IRB for jointly conducted projects.

“We hope that this agreement will encourage research collaborations among our three state campuses,” said Paula Garcia McAllister, interim human protection coordinator for the Vice President for Research.
