  • Biological Sciences graduate students Iain Emmons and Kayla Lauger recently published a paper that challenges the assumptions made in the federal listing regarding the species recovery of the northern Mexican gartersnake. The article highlights the public listing’s failure to address the important role non-native species, particularly immature age classes, serve as gartersnake prey. In addressing this critical role, especially in heavily-altered aquatic systems in Arizona where there is relatively little native aquatic prey available, the study has important implications for management and recovery of federally threatened gartersnakes and their food supply.
  • The NAU student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) was named the 2017 National Chapter of the Year. The chapter, selected out of 149 student chapters, will be recognized at the ACDA National Conference in Minneapolis on March 11. This honor recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of NAU’s choral music education students and their faculty mentors.
