  • Manley Begay, professor of applied indigenous studies, was selected to serve on the Council of Economic Advisors to advise the president and vice president of the Navajo Nation on economic development activities. The Navajo CEA will provide objective empirical research and assist with the president’s annual economic report. A citizen of the Navajo Nation, Begay specializes in indigenous nation-building, education, and Diné history and philosophy. He also is co-director of the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development.
  • NAU alumna Jeri Williams was named the new Phoenix Police Chief earlier this month. She will begin her new role in October and will be the first female to hold that job in the city’s history. Williams has been the chief of police with the Oxnard Police Department since January 2011. Williams holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University and is pursuing her doctorate in educational leadership.
