As part of a multiyear redesign of NAU’s performance appraisal tools and system for classified staff and service professionals, some changes have been made for the current appraisal cycle.
The changes will ensure a more seamless transition to the new system as it is implemented.
Phase one implementation items include:
- the removal of the default self-evaluation score for classified staff
- the addition of a self-evaluation form for service professionals
- the adoption of a performance management philosophy
Employees are encouraged to complete self-evaluations and submit them to their supervisors. Because the self-evaluation score for classified staff has been removed, employees no longer need to submit self-evaluations to Human Resources.
Supervisor appraisals are due to HR on Nov. 30 for classified staff and Jan. 31 for service professionals. Self-evaluation due dates should be established departmentally; however, Sept. 30 can be used as a guideline for classified staff if another date is not established.
This project has involved many constituents across campus, and all proposed changes have been and will continue to be discussed with the Classified Staff Advisory Council, Service Professional Advisory Council, Joint Working Group for Staff Salaries, the President’s Cabinet and open forums.
As development of the new performance appraisal system and tools occurs, Human Resources will continue to hold open forums to present information in draft form and ask for input. Forum schedules will be posted on the HR website and in future editions of the HR newsletter.
