Northern Arizona University students are invited to participate in the Regents’ Cup, a tri-university competition featuring team members engaging in debate. The cup, which the Arizona Board of Regents is sponsoring, is a celebration of free speech, civil discourse and democratic engagement at Arizona’s public universities. It engages students in rigorous debate anchored by respect and civil discourse.
The event itself is Nov. 16, but training, coaching and preparation begin now. Students earn course credit and compete for scholarships as they participate in this experience.
To apply, students must:
- Be full-time undergraduate or graduate students at NAU
- Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Meet NAU’s expectations for preparation and participation
- Participate in the Regents’ Cup
Twelve students will be selected to participate. They will enroll in POS 485 for the fall semester with Gretchen Knudson Gee, a senior lecturer in politics and international affairs, who is coaching the team. The course will focus on preparing students for the Regents’ Cup.
Interested students should contact Gee at gretchen.gee@nau.edu or (928) 523-8104. The deadline to apply is April 26.
