New web site addresses budget issue

President John Haeger has introduced a new web site to keep the NAU community informed of the latest budget news and how it affects campus.

The site features links where users can submit ideas that will be posted and discussed online. They also can send in rumors, which will be addressed.

On Nov. 15 the president assembled the university’s academic and administrative leadership to discuss how NAU might cope with what are expected to be additional significant cuts to its budget.

The president outlined essential guiding principles for upcoming difficult financial decisions:

  • protecting employees and their families
  • maintaining budget flexibility
  • taking a university-wide approach to budget reductions
  • continuing investment in those areas that are essential to maintaining the momentum of the university

During his scheduled university-wide address on Dec. 1, Haeger will inform campus of decisions he is prepared to make, issues that are still under study and updates on the status of the budget.
